Automatic Online Subscription Payments to be Banned in Russia

Companies will be obliged to stop using payment details at the first request of the client

From March 1, 2026, services will not be able to automatically debit money for online subscriptions from bank cards that the user has unlinked from their personal account. The changes will come into effect in accordance with the law signed in October 2025 by the President of Russia.

After a user deletes a bank card, the platform will not be able to automatically debit funds.

Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, previously noted that this norm will be an incentive for the entire industry to develop towards civilized standards. We are talking about a new clause in Article 161 of the Law "On Protection of Consumer Rights".

Automatic payments cannot be used as a tool to retain the audience or hidden influence. Now companies are obliged to stop using payment details at the first request of the client.

The new rules oblige sellers of digital subscriptions to ensure that consumers can refuse to use saved bank details or electronic payment data. The refusal can also be submitted electronically.

Earlier www1.ru reported that subscription prices in online cinemas in Russia increased by 50%.
