The company "Aviation Interiors" has completed the development, certification, and launch of serial production of domestic luggage racks for the regional aircraft SJ-100 and the medium-range MC-21. Both projects initially involved increasing the volume of the overhead bins by 20-25% compared to competitors, which required strengthening the structure and increasing the load capacity.
After the departure of foreign suppliers in 2022, the "Regional Aircraft" branch (part of PJSC "UAC", brand "Yakovlev") took over the responsibility for integrating interiors. The Russian manufacturer managed to recreate complex structures in a short time, meeting strict aviation safety requirements - including standards for flammability, heat release, and smoke generation.
20 shelves are installed on board the MC-21, most of which consist of two sections ("buckets") and can accommodate up to 12 suitcases placed on their edge. An increase in the weight of one shelf by only 10 kg would lead to a loss of about 1% of the aircraft's payload, which is equivalent to millions in losses for the airline over the life cycle of the aircraft.
According to the developers, the current models of shelves for the SJ-100 fit within the specified mass limits. The head of the R&D department of interiors of the "Regional Aircraft" branch, Filipp Skripalshchikov, noted that the company strictly controls the weight of products at the initial stage of mass production.
Work continues on reducing the weight of the structure for the MC-21. The chief designer of "Aviation Interiors", Vadim Shramov, said that by optimizing the geometry and load distribution, it will be possible to reduce the weight of the shelf without compromising strength.
In parallel, the import substitution of fittings has been completed: handles, hinges, and locks have already passed design tests. Fully domestic components will begin to be assembled from the fifth serial SJ-100.
