Honored Pilot Pointed Out Design Flaws in Superjet — Boeing and Airbus Don't Have This

Chairman of the Commission of the Rostransnadzor Council Smirnov: They Made Themselves Known in the Emergency at Sheremetyevo Airport

The Sukhoi Superjet aircraft design has technical flaws that manifested themselves during the rough landing of the aircraft at Sheremetyevo Airport. This was stated by the chairman of the Commission on Civil Aviation of the Public Council of Rostransnadzor, Honored Pilot of the USSR Oleg Smirnov.

The specialist was referring to the incident on May 5, 2019, when the aircraft's landing gear struts broke and the engines caught fire during landing. Of the 78 people on board, 41 died.

During a rough landing, the landing gear struts damaged the fuel tank. This happened due to a design that neither Boeing nor Airbus has, and no Soviet aircraft had.
Oleg Smirnov, Chairman of the Commission on Civil Aviation of the Public Council

Smirnov added that the specified Sukhoi Superjet are currently flying with French-Russian SaM146 engines, but they will require re-engining once they have exhausted their service life.

And Superjet is already "golden" in terms of cost, and with the update of the engines, it will become "golden with diamonds." And this is a problem, because the aircraft was still conceived as a mass one.
Oleg Smirnov, Chairman of the Commission on Civil Aviation of the Public Council

Earlier, "The First Technical" in a large article recalled all the emergencies that occurred with the Sukhoi Superjet.
