The Tu-214 aircraft with a modern domestic complex of airborne radio-electronic equipment and components received a certificate of Approval of the main change to the standard design. This was reported in the press service of Rostec.
The decision was made by Rosaviatsiya after a positive conclusion from the Aviation Register of Russia.
A large number of Rostec enterprises worked to ensure that the domestic Tu-214 received an addition to the type certificate. The aircraft was equipped with the most modern aviation equipment and systems. Currently, a large-scale modernization of the plant is underway in Kazan to increase the production of these machines.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Anton Alikhanov, said that aircraft designers have created the first domestic unique systems for preventing collisions with aircraft and early warning of ground proximity.
Now, systems that have already proven their effectiveness will be installed on other aircraft models as well. The Tu-214 in its new guise is another step towards technological sovereignty in civil aviation, and we are not stopping there.
The head of the Ministry of Transport, Andrei Nikitin, added that the approval of the import-substituted Tu-214 opens the way to the serial production of aircraft for deliveries to domestic airlines.
The Tu-214 flying laboratory aircraft, after being modified as part of import substitution, made its first flight in November 2024. Subsequently, aircraft designers conducted fine-tuning flights. In February 2025, the aircraft began to carry out a program of additional certification tests.
Rostec also stated that a large-scale modernization of production is underway at the Kazan Aviation Plant named after Gorbunov (KAZ, part of PJSC Tupolev) to increase the production of Tu-214. Against this background, the Kazan Aviation Plant announced a mass recruitment of new workers.
