The Belarusian energy system will be ready to integrate the third unit of the nuclear power plant by 2035. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of the Republic, Denis Moroz.
We are currently considering the location of the third power unit within the perimeter of the Belarusian nuclear power plant site. It is premature to name any specific parameters now, since this information will appear as a result of working out project solutions on how this unit will be located specifically.
Following a meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko in November, it was decided to create a working group that, together with the Rosatom State Corporation, will prepare documents for the implementation of the project to build the third unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP).
The new 1,200 MW unit will be a copy of the existing units installed at BelNPP. The possibility of putting the third unit into operation between 2035 and 2038 is being discussed, the minister noted.
In November, Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich also confirmed the decision to build the third power unit. Construction will run in parallel with the study of a site in the Mogilev region for the location of the second nuclear power plant.
BelNPP was built according to the standard Russian project "AES-2006" in the area of the city of Ostrovets, Grodno region. The general contractor was Atomstroyexport (part of the Rosatom State Corporation).
The first power unit was connected to the unified energy system on November 3, 2020 and put into operation in June 2021. The second unit was connected to the grid in May 2023, and it began operation on November 1.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the assembly of the reactor of the "BREST-OD-300" power unit is nearing completion.
