The head of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, Viktor Karankevich, said that the construction of a second nuclear power plant would meet the growing demand for electricity. The minister added that the republic is currently experiencing an increase in electricity consumption.
According to Karankevich, the reserve of energy capacities for the next 5 years and for the next 5 years will be sufficient.
And we must predict what will happen not only in 2035, but in 2040 and in subsequent periods.
The minister added that over the past six months, the increase in electricity consumption amounted to 1.7 billion kWh. Belarusian authorities predict that by 2030, electricity consumption will reach 47 billion kWh. The second nuclear power plant could meet this demand.
Electricity is needed for the development of the economy, energy-intensive industries, and electric transport. In addition, residents of the republic are actively switching to electricity for heating, Karankevich summarized.
