India will hold talks on the purchase of the latest S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) from Russia. The parties will discuss the topic during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi on December 4-5.
The Indian side's interest in the "Prometheus" is explained by the presence of China's advanced HQ-29 air defense system. Like the Russian complex, it is capable of destroying interceptor missiles of spacecraft and intercontinental ballistic missiles.
It should be noted that Russia has not yet officially sold the S-500 "Prometheus" to any foreign country. Judging by the trend, there will be no export deliveries until the industry meets the needs of the Russian army.
The S-500 system was classified as "strategic defense assets of Russia", and deliveries require approval at the highest level by the country's leadership.
Characteristics of the S-500 "Prometheus" SAM System:
- Target detection range: 800 km
- Combat radius: 600 km
- Number of missiles: 2-4 units
- Maximum speed of the target being hit: 7 km/s
- Maximum target engagement altitude: 200 km
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously noted that the supply of Su-57 fighters and S-400 missile systems is on the agenda of the Russian-Indian negotiations.
