The reactor vessel has been installed at the first power unit of the Egyptian El Dabaa nuclear power plant. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi launched the installation via video conference.
Reactors of the "three plus" generation will be able to produce up to 37 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, Putin noted. The facilities will provide about 10% of the country's electricity consumption.
Russia will continue to assist Egypt in all cycles of the nuclear project, the president added.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added that the first NPP being built by Rosatom in Egypt could be launched in the near future. According to him, there is every reason for this.
As a reminder, Russia and Egypt signed an agreement on cooperation in the construction of El Dabaa, 350 km from Cairo, in November 2015.
At the end of 2017, Rosatom and Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker signed acts on the entry into force of construction contracts. In total, the power plant will include four power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each. The station is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
