The installation of the third level of the inner containment of the reactor at the second power unit of the Egyptian El Dabaa NPP has been completed, Rosatom reported.
The last element of the structure, with a diameter of 44 meters and consisting of 12 segments, has been installed. The work took about two weeks and was carried out with the participation of 50 specialists using a crane with a lifting capacity of 1350 tons.
The inner containment is a cylindrical structure that houses the reactor and main equipment of the station. The height of each segment of the third level is about 9 meters, and the weight ranges from 40 to 100 tons. All blocks were manufactured directly at the construction site.
El Dabaa NPP became the first nuclear power plant being built by Russia on the African continent. Its power units use Russian VVER-1200 reactors. Similar Rosatom projects are also being implemented in Belarus and Bangladesh. The first power unit is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.
