Installation of an embedded part for the transport lock has begun at the second power unit of the El-Dabaa NPP in Egypt. This was reported by the press service of Rosatom State Corporation.
This part is a key element of the containment, to which the lock itself will be attached in the future. Important equipment (steam generators, the upper block of the reactor, main circulation pumps and pipelines of the primary circuit) will be delivered to the reactor building through it.
In case of emergency situations, the transport lock ensures the retention of radioactive substances in the containment zone, fire protection and, if necessary, evacuation of personnel.
The work is being carried out in difficult conditions, since the embedded part is located between the third and fourth tiers of the internal protective shell. Installation requires high accuracy and clear coordination of actions of all participants in the process.
