M-class flare recorded on the Sun this morning

On October 15 at 07:15 Moscow time, an M4.8 flare with a duration of 43 minutes was recorded in the X-ray range in a group of spots, according to the Institute of Applied Geophysics. This is the second strongest event in the last 4 months.

A high level of geomagnetic disturbance was also confirmed at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the IKI RAN.

Currently, a significant increase in activity is observed on the Sun, as predicted yesterday. The graphs show a continuous increase in the background radiation of the Sun, which has increased 4 times in 24 hours. Flare solar activity is mainly moderate, with possible X-class flares, including proton flares. In other words, the Sun is currently forming fluxes of X-ray radiation at the level of strong flares even in the absence of explosions.

It should be noted that X-class flares are the most powerful flares, capable of causing long-term communication disruptions and overloads in power grids, especially in northern latitudes. In this regard, experts note that conditions for shortwave radio communications may deteriorate in the coming days.
