A giant prominence has formed in the northeast of the Sun, according to specialists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute for Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to scientists, the Sun is likely trying to partially eject this plasma structure into space, but so far without success.
With a 90% probability, today or tomorrow, realizing the futility of these attempts, it will eject it entirely. Our condolences to the planet Mercury, although if this thing on the Sun gets stuck and stays for another three or four days, the other planets will be laughing at us.
Experts warn that if solar activity reaches a critical level, it will lead to catastrophic consequences. Electronics will fail, navigation systems will stop functioning, and communication satellites will cease to operate. However, more serious threats are associated with climate change and cataclysms caused by a sharp change in temperature and radiation levels.
A prominence is a dense condensation of relatively cold (compared to the solar corona) matter that rises and is held above the surface of the Sun by a magnetic field.
