From October 12, the Earth will be affected by a stream of solar wind formed by a large coronal hole on the surface of the Sun. The flow of high-speed plasma will reach our planet in the second half of Sunday - a little earlier than expected, reported at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy IKI and ISEF.
Experts emphasize that coronal holes located near the solar equator almost always affect the Earth, since the orbit of our planet is in the same plane. In this case, it will not be possible to avoid the impact, and therefore the magnetic storm, since in two days a fast stream of solar wind will pass just through the equatorial zone of the Sun.
At the moment, it is predicted that the magnetic storm will be "weak or moderate", and its impact will last about two days - from Sunday evening to Tuesday inclusive. Such phenomena are sometimes accompanied by temporary communication failures and "increased auroras in the northern latitudes."
