Scientists at the Moscow Aviation Institute are creating a concept for an aerospace transport system designed to deliver cargo and launch satellites into orbit. The space plane, according to their idea, will consume less fuel than traditional launch vehicles. It will be able to take off and land horizontally, using existing airfields, and will not require detachable parts of the structure. This was reported in the press service of the university.
Traditional launch vehicles, even taking into account current developments in reusable systems, will soon reach the limit of their technical perfection and will not be able to further reduce the cost of delivering cargo into orbit. To reduce the cost of space launches, it is necessary to introduce fundamentally new technical solutions.
To ensure high flight efficiency at all stages, from launch to orbit, a combined propulsion system is proposed. It will consist of three stages and use hydrogen as fuel.
At the initial stage and in the dense layers of the atmosphere, a steam-hydrogen rocket-turbine engine will operate. Then it will be replaced by a ramjet engine, and a rocket engine will be used in the final section of the trajectory. The use of hydrogen will significantly increase the overall efficiency of the system.
In the future, such a space plane can also be used for high-speed intercontinental flights and space tourism.
Earlier,www1.ru reported that awind-powered Mars rover was presented at the Science 0+ festival.
