At the plenary session of the "Innoprom. Belarus" exhibition, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the completion of the trials of the EMKA2 DC electric shunting locomotive one of the key industrial achievements of 2025. The development was made possible thanks to state support and cooperation between railway industry enterprises.
This year, the trials of the first domestic hybrid electric locomotive were completed. Its components and assemblies are completely Russian. In the future, the locomotive will make a significant contribution to improving the environmental friendliness of railway transportation
EMKA2 belongs to a new generation of shunting locomotives: it combines electric and battery traction, which significantly reduces emissions, increases energy efficiency and reduces operating costs. Unlike traditional diesel shunting locomotives, the hybrid scheme ensures operation at stations and in densely populated areas with minimal environmental impact.
