The first Russian serial hybrid electric locomotive EMKA2 was manufactured in Novocherkassk at the Transmashholding plant. It is equipped with an on-board energy storage device that will allow a train weighing up to two tons to travel a distance of up to 14 kilometers. Without a "trailer", such an electric locomotive is capable of overcoming the 100 kilometer mark.

EMKA2 can also operate from a contact network and recharge through it. Another charging method is through a standard current collector on the roof or from an external charging device.

The electric locomotive is equipped with a three-phase electric motor DTA-125. It has a squirrel-cage rotor, independent ventilation and axle-support suspension. The engine tests were carried out on October 18 last year. Previously, similar motors for electric locomotives were not produced in Russia.

Earlier www1.ru wrote that Transmashholding is developing a sample train on hydrogen fuel. The composition tests will be carried out in the Sakhalin region no earlier than 2025.
