Electricity generation at the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP is scheduled to begin in late 2026, according to Turkish Deputy Minister of Energy Zafer Demircan.
By the end of 2028, we plan to have all the station's reactors commissioned. Thus, thanks to the Akkuyu NPP, we will be able to cover 10% of the total electricity consumption and reduce emissions by 35 million tons.
The forum also hosted a ceremony for the shipment of VVER-1200 reactor vessels, which Rosatom supplied for the El-Dabaa NPP under construction in Egypt and Akkuyu. Demircan noted that this event is a convincing demonstration of the two countries' joint work within the project.
According to the Deputy Minister, Turkey plans to commission nuclear power units with a total capacity of 20 gigawatts by 2050, including innovative solutions in the form of small modular reactors.
The Director General of the State Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, also reported that the reactor for the Akkuyu NPP became the 80th export delivery and the 250th produced by Rosatom enterprises.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.
