Electric motors of technical water supply pumps have been started at the coastal pumping station of the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP.
The system includes six pumps, each capable of pumping up to 770 cubic meters of water per hour — that's about 5.5 railway tanks.
Technical water is used to cool auxiliary equipment, ensuring its stable and safe operation. The launch of the pumps is an important step towards putting the power unit into operation.
Construction of the pumping station for Akkuyu began back in 2020: its construction required enclosing the coastline with a reinforced concrete diaphragm — this wall was later dismantled to provide free access of seawater to the pumps. The commissioning stage has been underway since February 3, 2025.
