Technologically, the project demonstrates steady progress. Despite the difficult external conditions, the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey has not been suspended. According to Anton Dedusenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC "Akkuyu Nuklear", the project implementation continues. In March 2025, specialists completed construction and installation work on the first power unit. According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, the commissioning of this unit is expected during the current year.

The "Akkuyu" NPP is a unique project for the global nuclear power industry, implemented according to the BOO (Build-Own-Operate) model. This means that "Rosatom" will not only build the station, but also own and operate it throughout its life cycle. The station includes four power units with VVER-1200 generation 3+ reactors – some of the most modern and safe in the world. The capacity of each unit will be 1200 MW, which will provide a significant part of Turkey's growing energy needs. Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar previously emphasized the launch of the first unit as a priority goal.
