Scientists from Russia and the United Arab Emirates have created a mathematical model that provides a more accurate description of specific vibrations in the wings and other structural elements of aircraft. These vibrations accelerate the wear of parts and can lead to the destruction of aircraft. The developed model will increase the reliability and safety of airliners, according to the press service of the Russian Science Foundation (RSF).
Our analysis will be useful for engineers. Understanding the exact mechanisms of the occurrence and damping of nonlinear oscillations, they will be able to design more reliable and efficient damping devices for wings and other elements of aircraft. This, in turn, will help improve the safety of air travel.
Specialists have developed a methodology for modeling the phenomenon of flutter - sudden and rapid vibrations affecting elements of aircraft structures, including wings and tail section. These vibrations accelerate the wear of parts and can lead to their destruction during flight. To prevent such situations, engineers install many dampers in the aircraft structure.
These devices are designed to absorb vibration energy and ensure system stability. However, the practice of their application shows that existing dampers do not always demonstrate the expected efficiency. For their correct operation, it is necessary to accurately determine where and how vibrations occur in the aircraft structure, as well as to study the characteristics of these oscillations.
