Millionth Microcontroller Based on RISC-V K1921VG015 Architecture Released by NIIET on the Packaging Line in Voronezh

The line's design capacity is up to 10 million microchips per year

Voronezh Research Institute of Electronic Technology (NIIET, part of the Element Group) has released its millionth K1921VG015 microcontroller on a new packaging line launched a year ago. This was announced by the company's press service on March 17. The total production volume of the technological site for the year amounted to about 1.5 million units. The line was launched with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and funding from the Industrial Development Fund.

NIIET Packaging Line: What They Produce and For Whom

The site is designed for a wide range of products: microcontrollers, microprocessors, and microwave transistors, including modern silicon and gallium nitride solutions. The components are produced in common metal-polymer packages — QFP, QFN, SOT, SOIC, TO — which ensures compatibility with standard printed circuit boards from Russian electronics manufacturers.

The line's design capacity is up to 10 million units per year. This allows not only to meet the internal needs of the Element Group's enterprises, but also to accept orders from third-party electronics manufacturers.

Microcontroller K1921VG015: Characteristics and Applications

K1921VG015 is a flagship 32-bit ultra-low-power microcontroller based on the RISC-V architecture. The RISC-V architecture is an open standard for processor instructions that does not require license fees to Western rights holders, which makes it strategically important for Russian microelectronics in the context of sanctions.

The microchip is used in measuring instruments, household gas and electricity meters, industrial automation systems, and medical equipment. K1921VG015 is included in the unified register of radio-electronic products under Decrees of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 719 and No. 878 — this is a condition for use in government procurement and at critical infrastructure facilities.

Specifications of the K1921VG015 Microcontroller and NIIET Packaging Line

  • Manufacturer: NIIET, Element Group
  • Architecture: RISC-V, 32-bit
  • Type: ultra-low-power microcontroller
  • Package: metal-polymer (QFP, QFN, SOT, SOIC, TO)
  • Register: Decrees of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 719 and No. 878
  • Line design capacity: up to 10 million units per year
  • Released in a year: about 1.5 million units, including 1 million K1921VG015
  • Line launch: February 2025
  • Microchip is included in the unified register of radio-electronic products

The release of the millionth microcontroller in a year is an indicator that the line has reached a stable serial rhythm. For Russian microelectronics, where packaging production capacities have historically been a bottleneck, this is a significant result: before the launch of the NIIET line, domestic chips were often sent for packaging abroad. Reaching a capacity of 10 million units per year closes a critical dependency in the production chain of domestic electronic component base.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that NIIET is introducing the 32-bit K1921VG015 microcontroller based on the RISC-V architecture into the curricula of several Russian universities.
