At the end of August 2025, the construction of two new river universal passenger ships, which will be able to accommodate up to 240 passengers, began at the Nefteflot plant in Samara. The motor ships, developed under the domestic MPKS-L project, are being created with state support and are intended for a local river passenger enterprise.
The MPKS-L project of the company became a continuation of the successful MPKS project, under which two vessels were already built and put into operation in 2024. The new motor ships have a length of about 32 meters and a width of just over 8 meters, which ensures their maneuverability and comfort on the water. They will be equipped with two powerful 300-horsepower diesel-reduction units YaMZ-536DMT140H, as well as modern control systems and automated gangways for convenient disembarkation ashore.
These vessels provide comfortable transportation of passengers due to the presence of two enclosed cabins and an open area. They are designed to serve local and suburban lines on inland waterways, as well as in coastal areas. Vessels can be operated on most reservoirs, rivers and lakes.
The updated MPKS-L project includes improvements such as an open upper saloon for summer travel and redesigned passenger and cargo compartments. The dimensions and main characteristics of the new motor ships remain similar to the previous model, which guarantees the preservation of all advantages.
According to information from Russian specialized media, the total cost of construction of two new river vessels is about 0.76 billion rubles. The vessels are expected to be delivered to the customer in September 2026, which will be a significant step forward for the development of river passenger transport in Russia.
