Main Base Revealed for Tu-160M, Tu-95MS, and Tu-22M3 Missile Carriers

Long-range aviation aircraft have been used less frequently recently

The main base for strategic missile carriers and Tu-160M, Tu-95MS, and Tu-22M3 bombers has become the "Ukrainka" airbase in the Seryshevsky District of the Amur Region, 26 km north of the city of Belogorsk.

The military airfield was named after the nearby village, where Ukrainian settlers settled back in the days of the Russian Empire.

The airfield became known in 1953 as one of the six bases serving Soviet heavy strategic bombers, with a concrete runway (runway) 3.5 km long. In the late 1960s, the 40th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment of "strategists" M-4 was stationed here.

Military analysts have noticed that strategic missile carriers have begun to be used less frequently due to the excessive distance of the base. It's no secret that unjustified operation accelerates the wear and tear of the aircraft fleet, which loses precious engine life.

Lieutenant General Alexander Maksimtsev noted in August that the Ministry of Defense plans to provide shelters to protect aviationfor the entire airfield network of the Armed Forces. At the same time, Russia has beguntraining new pilots for "strategists", based at a school in the Ulyanovsk region.
