«Адмирал Нахимов» и МиГ-31: названа идеальная пара для охраны российской Арктики

The fighter's advanced Zaslon radar will provide the Project 1142.4 cruiser with targeting data for missile guidance

The modernized cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" 1142.4 and the heavy interceptor MiG-31BM are an ideal pair for protecting the Russian Arctic. The combat aircraft will transmit critical targeting data to the ship to facilitate over-the-horizon targeting using the onboard S-400 antiaircraft system, making it easier to engage targets at distances approaching 400 km.

The "Admiral Nakhimov's" complement of 96 long-range surface-to-air missiles will allow the MiG-31 to direct shipborne missiles to detected targets, avoiding the need to return to base if the aircraft has expended its ammunition.

While the MiG-31BM is expected to form the backbone of Russia's air defenses in the Arctic for the foreseeable future, the commissioning of the "Admiral Nakhimov" could provide them with invaluable support.

The MiG-31s are also well-suited to guarding the Arctic. They operate in regions where there is no continuous coverage from air defenses or ground control systems.

The MiG-31 has a long flight range, the highest cruising speed in the world, and the world's largest N007 Zaslon radar, which is more than three times the size of the largest radars installed on Western fighters.
