It is planned to resume ship construction and create a large logistics terminal on the basis of the former Volgograd Shipbuilding Plant. The initiative belongs to a business group from Iran.
The project covers an area of approximately 70 hectares. The plans include a modern container terminal with customs warehousing, climate-controlled storage facilities and areas for bulk cargo. It is expected to expand Iran's access to Russian and European markets through international transport corridors.
Iranians want to increase shipbuilding capacity, and Volgograd's convenient geographical location between the Caspian and Black Sea basins makes it suitable for cargo handling and fleet renewal.
The Volgograd Shipbuilding Plant has changed owners more than once in recent years. In April 2019, the company was acquired at auction by an individual entrepreneur for 323,900,050 rubles. Four years later, the plant was resold again, already for the one who bought it for 427,999,999 rubles.
