The Perm Design Bureau "UEC-Aviadvigatel" during the development of the fifth-generation PD-14 aircraft engine created and implemented 16 innovative technologies that did not exist before, UEC reported.
Engineers also developed 12 new materials and coatings.
Deputy General Designer of "UEC-Aviadvigatel" Igor Maksimov clarified that we are talking about critical technologies of superplastic forming and diffusion welding. According to him, UEC initially understood that the Soviet groundwork of engine building would not allow developing a competitive unit.
The essence of these technologies is that titanium sheets are welded together in a special way, and they are given the shape of blades. These unique technologies are being used for the first time in Russia in an aircraft engine for a passenger aircraft.
Hollow wide-chord fan blades of the PD-14 aircraft engine were created thanks to new technologies of superplastic forming and diffusion welding. The technologies ensured a reduction in the weight of each of the blades, which increased the efficiency of the fan and the fuel efficiency of the entire aircraft engine.
The new domestic PD-14 aircraft engine was created for medium-range passenger aircraft. The engine is mass-produced by UEC enterprises in broad cooperation, the main manufacturer is "UEC-Perm Motors".
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rostec declassified the heat resistance of the blades of PD-8 and PD-14 aircraft engines.
