A Mi-8T helicopter from the Kamchatka Aviation Enterprise made an emergency delivery of food to the village of Apuka in the Olyutorsky District of Kamchatka, which was cut off from the outside world due to cyclones and difficult weather conditions. The aircraft, originally scheduled to transport a visiting team of doctors, additionally took on board 400 kilograms of food, including fresh vegetables and dairy products, the shortage of which was most acutely felt by local residents.
The technical capabilities of the Mi-8T allowed the crew to fly in difficult weather conditions. The helicopter of this modification is equipped with two TV2-117A turboshaft engines, which ensures reliable operation at low temperatures and gusty winds, typical of the Kamchatka winter. A carrying capacity of up to four tons in the transport configuration made it possible to combine the medical mission with the delivery of food without compromising flight safety.
The route ran from the district center of Tilichiki, where the helicopter took on board both medical specialists and food cargo. After a successful landing in Apuka and unloading of food, the crew continued to implement the plan: the doctors began working with the local population, and the aircraft went to the next destination — the village of Achayvayam. This logistical scheme made it possible to optimize the use of aircraft and reduce the time to restore the supply of a remote settlement.
The delivery of food to Apuka became part of a comprehensive effort to ensure the livelihoods of remote settlements in Kamchatka in winter. Mi-8T helicopters remain the main tool for rapid response when ground transportation cannot overcome the consequences of the elements.
