More than 20 innovative materials implemented in the PD-14 aircraft engine for the MS-21 airliner

Among them are ceramic composite and polymer materials

Designers of the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) have developed and implemented 20 new grades of materials, and also refined over 50, UEC reported.

Among them are domestic ceramic and polymer composite materials, as well as high-heat-resistant alloys.

For example, a high-strength steel was developed for the low-pressure turbine shaft of the PD-14. The element is extremely important in the design of an aircraft engine, as it is one of the most highly loaded parts.

The shaft can be compared to the spine of a gas turbine engine, all other components and assemblies are attached to it. The material is very important to ensure the reliability of this element.
UEC

At the "UEC-Perm Motors" enterprise, the shafts of PD-14 aircraft engines are produced from a domestic grade of high-strength steel, fully meeting all the high requirements of engine building, the state corporation emphasized.

Earlier www1.ru reported that Rostec was instructed to reduce the cost of the MS-21 and SJ-100, advantages over Boeing and Airbus are needed.
