Russia must necessarily preserve the only aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" of Project 1143.5. This opinion was voiced by State Duma Deputy Viktor Sobolev.
According to him, the idea to decommission the "Kuznetsov" is a cowardly retreat from the long-term interests of the fleet. He emphasized that he personally visited shipbuilding enterprises in Severodvinsk, including "Sevmash" and "Zvezdochka", when "there was no talk of decommissioning the ship."
If we didn't have 15 more oligarchs every year, there would be enough money for modernization and conversion into a nuclear-powered cruiser. But here, you see, there's money for the oligarchs, but modernization is "impractical."
The parliamentarian emphasized that it is fundamentally important for the Navy to have at least one aircraft-carrying cruiser to ensure presence in distant seas.
Specialized Telegram channels report that 100 billion rubles have already been spent on the modernization of the cruiser. An additional 30 billion could save the situation.
