Russian Railways (RZD) does not plan to purchase passenger trains of foreign production. This was announced by the Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, Ivan Kolesnikov.
We can say with confidence that we have learned to produce domestic rolling stock and maintain it independently. These skills have been formed and consolidated in the country. Our machine builders and service companies have done a great job in forming their own base for servicing this rolling stock.
Currently, Russia has a significant portion of import-substituted spare parts for equipment. In trains manufactured by Siemens, such as the Sapsan and the Lastochka "Olympic" electric trains, components of Russian production are used during maintenance and repair. This allows Russian Railways to reduce dependence on foreign supplies and increase the level of self-sufficiency in the maintenance of rolling stock.
So, Russian Railways has no need for railway products of foreign production. Also, now we have fully import-substituted rolling stock in the form of the Ivolga, Finist trains, and a significant amount of spare parts and long-distance cars, which are produced by domestic car builders. If we have learned to do it ourselves, it is appropriate to continue doing it ourselves.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Russian Railways will launch additional freight trains thanks to the HSR.
