The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Transport) is working on the construction of a high-speed railway. Trains will start running on the new railway lines at speeds of up to 400 km/h. This was announced by the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Roman Starovoit during a speech at the Federation Council.
According to the minister, the creation of a high-speed railway (HSR) to the new regions is currently being worked out. The first on the list is the construction of HSR-1 from St. Petersburg to Moscow. The length of the new highway is expected to be 679 kilometers, and it is planned to be launched in 2028.
We have only included one direction in the project so far, but on behalf of the president, we are also working on the Kazan - Yekaterinburg, Moscow - Adler, to Ryazan, Minsk and new regions.
Length and travel time will be:
- Moscow-St. Petersburg - 679 km, travel time 2 hours 15 minutes
- Moscow-Yekaterinburg "Vostok" - 1532 km, 6 hours 36 minutes
- Moscow-Adler "South" - 1540 km, 7 hours 50 minutes
- Moscow-Minsk "Soyuz" - 715 km, 3 hours
- Moscow-Ryazan - 205 km, 1 hour 5 minutes
It is worth noting that at the moment there is not a single high-speed railway in Russia designed for trains with speeds exceeding 250 km/h. The decision to build HSR-1 was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin and announced in his address to the Federal Assembly in February 2024.
Earlierwww1.ru reported that trains capable of accelerating up to 400 km/h willappear in Russia.
