Details emerge about the new Russian wide-body aircraft: it will receive "huge" PD-35 engines

"Technosphere of Russia": it is easier to develop an aircraft for an engine being created, and not vice versa

In Russia, the development of a new wide-body long-range aircraft project will begin in 2026. Currently, the requirements and technical appearance of the aircraft are being worked out, the publication "Technosphere of Russia" spoke about the likely technical details of the new product.

The machine will receive PD-35 engines, journalists suggested. Of the other new Russian engines of the "PD" line, there are only small PD-8s and medium PD-14s, which are not suitable for long-range and heavy-lift vehicles.

A number of "armchair experts" who only occasionally use airplanes as passengers like to loudly declare - "when your PD-35 is ready, put 2 pieces on the Il-96 instead of 4 PS-90, and that's it, let's fly." Such a "rework" of the machine will require almost a complete redesign, modifications and tests. It is easier to create a new aircraft for the engine being created. It seems that from 2026 it will be so in Russia.
