Russia to start building aircraft from thermoplastic composites: weight reduced by 20%

Materials will replace traditional alloys of aluminum and magnesium

The Ulyanovsk enterprise "Aerocomposite" plans to create an airplane entirely made of thermoplastic composites. The new materials will reduce the weight of the aircraft by 15-20%, according to Anatoly Gaidansky, the company's CEO.

According to him, thermoplastic composites will replace alloys of aluminum and magnesium. The composites are planned to be used in load-bearing aircraft structures, in the leading edges of the wing, in fasteners and ribs.

Modern future aircraft will be made entirely of thermoplastic composites. This, according to our estimates, will give a reduction of 15-20% in weight.

Earlier www1.ru stated that thermoplastic materials will appear in the PD-14, PD-8 and PD-35 engines.
