The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) is developing a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the helicopter type with a fundamentally new control system. This was announced by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of TsAGI Sergey Chernyshev.
According to him, conventional helicopters use complex mechanisms - such as a swashplate, especially in coaxial configurations, where the device is even more complex.
In the new project, control is achieved through two tail booms with adjustable nozzles. By changing the direction and force of the air jets, the system creates the necessary conditions for the helicopter to fly and maneuver stably. This solution is simpler and more efficient than traditional systems.
The institute's specialists have also developed an aircraft with a rotor-wing that can be fixed in flight. It combines the qualities of a helicopter and an airplane - it takes off vertically, hovers in space, but can also develop high speed in horizontal flight.
