New radio mast and lightning rod were installed at the Sakhalin tracking station, which is under construction for the Amur Vostochny Cosmodrome.
The height of the radio mast is 27 meters. It will provide a backup communication channel. The 36-meter lightning rod mast is designed to protect equipment and buildings from lightning strikes. The installation of the equipment will improve the safety of specialists, maintain the operability of equipment and reduce the risk of fire.
The Sakhalin tracking station is part of the ground infrastructure of the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The facility will provide telemetry support for launches, receive signals from launch vehicles and spacecraft. The station is being built in the Poronaysky district of Sakhalin, as the flight path passes over this territory.
According to Nikolai Novikov, General Director of the Cosmodrome Directorate, work continues at the facility to connect to a permanent power supply, the premises of the administrative and household complex and the hotel are being finished, roads and sidewalks are being prepared for asphalt laying, and vertical planning of the territory is being carried out.
The construction of the station is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025. Highly sensitive antennas for the Sakhalin tracking station were developed by Russian specialists taking into account the conditions of the region. Flights of the Angara heavy launch vehicle will also be tracked here.
