Как защитить деньги на карте от мошенников: совет от МВД

A large sum on a regular debit card makes a person a priority target for cybercriminals

Online payments have become an integral part of our lives. We use them to pay in taxis, pay for utilities, and buy goods on marketplaces. It's all quick and convenient. However, there is another side: having a large sum on a regular debit card makes us an attractive target for cybercriminals. The UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia gave several tips on how to save your savings.

Keep an "operational minimum" on the card. Use a debit card only for current expenses. Keep your main savings in savings accounts or deposits — in addition to more difficult access, they are protected by state insurance there.

As the police noted, even the most attentive users may not notice a phishing site or fall for social engineering tricks.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also recommended using virtual cards for specific purposes or for a short period. In most banking applications, their registration will take only a couple of minutes. Even if the card details fall into the wrong hands, your main card and savings will remain safe.

Limit the amounts for cash withdrawals and purchases. This will deter fraudsters, even if they gain access to the card details. And instant push notifications about any transactions will help you react in time to a suspicious payment.

Another way is to create a separate card or account for automatic payments (payment of housing and communal services, subscriptions). Replenish it only with the required amount. This will protect your main funds and help you control expenses.

In addition, it is important to know how to quickly block a card through a bank's mobile application if you have lost your phone or noticed a suspicious transaction.

The police reminded that conscious management of finances and well-thought-out security measures significantly reduce the risk of fraud.

Earlier it became known that attackers created a fake page of the Fast Payment System (FPS) to deceive Russians. Scammers use the legend of the "tax on winnings" to lure users into a trap.
