«Чтобы завтра снова не украли»: россиян призвали защищать личные данные даже после утечки

Information changes dynamically, and the fresher it is, the easier it is to carry out attacks on a person

Personal data is important to protect even after a leak. This is necessary to avoid repeated thefts, said Yuri Maksimov, co-founder of Positive Technologies and the Cybers Foundation for Effective Cybersecurity.

Even if they were stolen yesterday, today you need to protect yourself so that they don't steal again tomorrow. Because many data change quite dynamically, and the fresher they are, the easier it is to carry out attacks on a person. It's one thing when a fraudster calls you and refers to banking operations a year ago. It's another thing when he refers to yesterday's banking operations. This is a fundamental difference.

He noted that not updating the protection of personal data after a hack is extremely dangerous and wrong.

If the data is protected and can no longer be stolen, you can think about replacing it: document numbers, phone numbers, pension data, and so on. It is also worth starting to correct the consequences of what happened over the past year, Maksimov added.

In 2024, Roskomnadzor identified 135 cases of personal data leaks, affecting more than 710 million records. The largest number of leaks occurred in companies operating in the field of trade and services.
