Russian Geran kamikaze drones now have jet engines, armor, armed escort, and artificial intelligence, which has made them even more deadly.
Already in the early stages, the drones received protection against interference, a black stealth coating, and several warhead options, including a thermobaric version for destroying buildings.
Now versions with jet engines have appeared. These Gerans are much faster, which leaves much less time for their detection and interception. They rush through the sky with a loud howl, very unlike the "moped" sounds of the basic version.
Some Gerans are now armored. It is reported that the engine compartment of such drones is protected by armored plates, and the tanks have been moved to the inside of the fuselage from the wings.
Along with the drones, the tactics of their use are also changing by the Russian military. Previously, the Gerans flew at low altitude to avoid detection, but now they gain high altitude to stay out of reach of anti-aircraft guns, and remain there until they reach their target. After that, they descend to a height of 1 km, and then dive at the target.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the military installed a new 107-mm MLRS on the chassis from UAZ-3303 "Bukhanka".
