During a flight from Moscow to Batumi, a Superjet-100 aircraft experienced an engine cowling detachment mid-air. The footage went viral on social media.
The incident occurred right after takeoff from the airport. A piece of the skin fell off, and passengers saw the liner's engine internals. Due to the situation, the crew decided to return urgently.
Vnukovo Airport introduced a "blue" mode, signaling an emergency in flight and the need for an emergency landing. No one was injured in the incident.
The "Superjet-100" is a narrow-body, short-haul aircraft designed for flights up to 5,000 km. The SJ-100 became the first civilian serial aircraft created in Russia after the collapse of the USSR.
