Tu-160 "White Swan" Bomber and Soviet Tu-144 to Become the Basis for a New Supersonic Russian Airliner

However, the appearance of such a passenger aircraft is a very distant prospect

To create a new generation supersonic passenger airliner in Russia, it is planned to use developments based on the Tu-160 "White Swan" strategic bomber and the Soviet first-class supersonic aircraft Tu-144. This was announced by aviation expert Andrei Sinyukov.

He recalled that in January 2025, the American experimental aircraft overcame the sound barrier for the first time. And although the aircraft outwardly resembled a compact fighter, in reality it is a prototype of a supersonic passenger airliner - it is about three times smaller than the future aircraft.

A supersonic aircraft is being developed in Russia, but this is a very distant prospect. Scientific developments are underway, and the very concept of the aircraft is being worked out, that is, constructive solutions. I believe that we are on the right track. We must not, so to speak, fall out of the pack. But there is no point in overtaking other countries. We need to see what they come up with and do better.
