In Belarus, engineers at Unitsky String Technologies Inc. (CJSC "String Technologies") have developed an innovative rail drone called "Uniflash," which could be a breakthrough in high-speed transportation. Its key advantage is its unique aerodynamics: the drag coefficient is only 0.06, which is three times better than the most economical production car, the Volkswagen XL1 (0.18).
Wind tunnel tests have confirmed that "Uniflash" is capable of accelerating to 500 km/h with minimal energy consumption. Transporting one passenger for 100 km requires only 0.93 kg of fuel — comparable to 1 liter of gasoline for a regular car.
The transport design involves movement along an overpass with pinpoint supports, reducing the load on infrastructure and the environment. Unlike traditional high-speed trains, "Uniflash" does not require a continuous track, which reduces construction costs and minimizes the impact on the landscape. The system also does not need anti-icing agents, which is especially important for northern regions. In addition, the pinpoint supports of the overpass do not disturb the soil layer, preserving biodiversity.
"Uniflash" could become an alternative to aviation on medium-haul routes, offering comparable speed with significantly lower energy consumption.
