Footage has emerged online showing a Russian diesel-electric submarine "Krasnodar" of Project 636.3, code "Varshavyanka," of the Black Sea Fleet being escorted in the English Channel between France and Great Britain.
The photographs show that the submarine is moving in a surfaced position in accordance with international rules. A British warship is following at a distance nearby.
The Russian Navy denied information that the submarine was allegedly "intercepted" by British Navy forces. The Navy emphasized that domestic submarines perform combat training tasks in the world's oceans, and "it is impossible to intercept them."
The Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine is designed to destroy enemy submarines, surface ships and vessels, for patrol, surveillance, protection of communications in the near sea zone, and reconnaissance.
The submarines have a length of 74 m, a maximum displacement of more than 3.9 thousand tons. The strong hull provides the submarine with a working depth of 240 m and a maximum depth of 300 m, a range of up to 7.5 thousand miles. The main armament of the submarines is the Kalibr-PL missile system.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the Pantsir-S1 air defense missile system received a new radar for missile guidance and target tracking.
