Crews of two Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft of the naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet conducted training flights over the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
During the flights, the crews practiced searching, classifying, and tracking submarines of a mock enemy with the integrated use of modern radar and sonar detection equipment. As part of the event, the aircraft practiced an algorithm of actions for the conditional dropping of sonar buoys.
During the sorties, the commanders of the anti-submarine aircraft crews improved their skills in passing a given course over the water surface and coastal zone, and performed flight piloting tasks during the day and at night. Two Il-38 aircraft were involved in the training flights, and 2 flight shifts were conducted.
The Il-38 aircraft is designed to search, detect, and destroy enemy submarines. It was developed on the basis of the Il-18D passenger aircraft.
