Attackers have started using a new method of deception: they steal passwords from bank cards by sending messages with phishing links via Telegram, offering users to participate in alleged promotions of major banks or well-known companies. This was reported by the Department for Combating Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Fraudsters lure potential victims into a fraudulent Telegram channel using a logo and design reminiscent of a recognizable bank brand. They offer to participate in a promotion that allows you to receive from 50 to 70% cashback for purchases. However, the link they provide leads to phishing sites.
When customers click on this link, they are asked for passwords or codes from SMS. As soon as they enter this data, it immediately falls into the hands of fraudsters.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises Russians not to follow suspicious links and not to provide their data. The department also notes that information about promotions and other offers should be sought only in official bank applications.
Earlier www1.ru reported that in the first quarter of 2025, hackers stole more than 21.5 million phone numbers and 17 million email addresses of Russians. The largest number of leaks was recorded in logistics companies.
