Robotic Voice and Strange Requests: How to Recognize a Deepfake and Save Your Money

The Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the signs of deepfakes

Unnatural intonation, rare blinking, and atypical requests may indicate that the video was created using deepfake technologies. This was reported by the Department for Organizing the Fight Against Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The department advises paying attention to speech patterns. If the voice sounds "robotic," it is recommended to additionally contact the person and verify their identity to rule out the possibility of fraud.

Signs of a deepfake may also include unsynchronized lip movements and too rare blinking. Unusual movements and unusual requests coming through non-standard communication channels should also be alarming.

Fraudsters most often use deepfakes of acquaintances to ask for money after hacking an account. Sometimes, attackers create fake videos featuring celebrities to advertise games or attract people to dubious investment projects. By clicking on the links provided, users risk losing their savings.
