Hackers Attack: Cyberattacks Surge in Q1 2025

Online Bookmakers and Financial Companies Under Threat

In the first quarter of 2025, the number of DDoS attacks more than doubled compared to the same period in 2024. Online bookmakers were particularly affected, experiencing record attacks. This was reported to journalists by cybersecurity experts.

Attackers are adapting to protection methods and becoming more selective in their actions. According to Curator analysts, the total number of DDoS attacks at the network and transport layers increased by 110%. The average duration of attacks decreased from 71.7 to 11.5 minutes. This year, an attack on online bookmakers with a bitrate of 232 Gbps was recorded, which is significantly lower than the record in 2024.

The main targets of attacks remain companies from IT, the financial sector, and e-commerce, as well as telecommunications companies.

Attackers are increasingly abandoning mass methods and preferring more effective strategies. There is a growth in botnets consisting of 1.3 million infected devices, which is six times higher than previous records. Vulnerable IoT devices are becoming easy prey for hackers, exacerbating the situation.
