Specialists from Rosatom have started developing a technology for producing beryllium-containing materials. As part of this project, the first experimental site in Russia for developing production from ore concentrate to finished metal will be created at the Research Institute NPO LUCH.
It is expected that the processing volume will be up to 300 kg of beryllium per year.
Beryllium is a rare metal. It is mainly used as an alloying additive to various alloys, which significantly increases their hardness and strength, and the corrosion resistance of product surfaces.
Beryllium-containing materials are widely used in various industries (X-ray technology, nuclear reactors, laser, aerospace technology, acoustic systems). The importance of these materials is increasing in connection with the implementation of the project to create a research molten salt reactor, which requires a significant amount of beryllium-containing components.
Earlier www1.ru reported that Rosatom will proceed with the implementation of new projects in the Tver region.
