The first stage of testing the SJ-100 aircraft with domestic PD-8 engines was aimed at checking the operation of power plants and their interaction with controls. This was stated by Kirill Kuznetsov, chief designer of the Superjet SJ-100.
The new engine is the heart of the aircraft; without it, it will not fly. The first stage of testing is to check the operation of the engine and the aircraft in flight as a single system. It will be dedicated to checking the engine's operation, response to controls, and other systems. This is the most exciting step for us. For the first time, we made the aircraft and engine friends. In the second stage, we will already be demonstrating the aircraft's characteristics.
The first flight with PD-8 engines took place in Komsomolsk-on-Amur with a crew consisting of test pilots Igor Grevtsev, Dmitry Demenev, and flight operator Maxim Gryukanov. The aircraft was in the air for about 40 minutes, reaching an altitude of up to 3,000 m and a speed of 500 km/h.
Earlier www1.ru reported that the Superjet aircraft with PD-8 engines made its first flight.
