At the initial stage, the driverless train in the Moscow Metro will run only at night, with a driver and without passengers. This was announced by Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
We will only begin this year the long journey of transferring the metro to driverless mode. This will be a train moving with a driver and without passengers.
This is just the beginning of a long journey, which will be difficult due to the heavy traffic, Liksutov emphasized. At the initial stage, the train will depart at night so as not to interfere with the operation of the metro.
He added that it will be a modernized train, which will be called "Moscow-2020".
Earlier, Liksutov announced the start of preparations for the launch of the first driverless train in the Moscow Metro. The innovative train will run on the Big Circle Line.
The press service of the Mayor and Government of Moscow reported that the first driverless train will start running on the Big Circle Line in 2025. In the future, it is planned to introduce this technology on other metro lines as well.
A 5G technological network was developed to organize driverless traffic on the Big Circle Line. It will provide ultra-fast and reliable communication between trains and infrastructure.
Earlier, the new Moscow-2024 metro train was launched on the "green" line of the Moscow Metro. The share of modern cars in the Moscow Metro has already reached 74%. The process of updating the rolling stock continues — work is currently underway to create an even more modern Moscow-2026 train.
