The Russian holding company Rostec has started producing high-tech glass for metro trains in two capitals. These innovative glasses are manufactured as part of the serial production of ONPP Tekhnologiya named after Romashin, which is part of Rostec. The new technology is used for glazing driver's cabs for both Moscow's Moscow-2024 metro trains and Baltiets cars operating in the St. Petersburg metro. In total, it is planned to manufacture sets of glass panels for 40 trains of the Moscow Metro and another seven for the St. Petersburg Metro, in addition to the 26 already delivered.
One of the main features of these glasses is the use of an ultra-thin metal oxide film, the thickness of which does not exceed 60 nanometers, making it thinner than a human hair. This film provides uniform heating of the structure while maintaining complete transparency even in low-temperature conditions. For example, the glass remains transparent when the train exits the tunnel into the open section of the line.
Our specialists relied on the experience gained during the development of glazing for Moscow-2020 metro trains. The products fully comply with safety requirements, protecting the driver and providing him with comfortable working conditions.
This technology also allows creating glasses with complex geometry and modern design. It is reported that the first sets of glasses have already been sent to the customer.
